Home again, home again...

We had such a wonderful time in Charlotte with our beautiful daughters and son-in-law that it makes it kind of hard to come back home. Charlotte's blue sky and mild temps make me want to pack up and move. We hiked, decorated eggs, wandered through uptown and Sleepy Poet, watched movies, rode on a firetruck - for real: sirens blasting and everything (THANK YOU STATION 32!!!), egg hunted, met the new kitten, and just enjoyed each other.

The road trip home is always a little quiet and introspective. And once we arrive, the house seems large and empty. Who's idea was it that kids should grow up and move out?

So I did what I knew would help my doldrums: I ate a half pound bag of peanut m&m's, went for a run, and made some hummus; in that order.

I started out making spicy lemon hummus with capers and lots of lemon juice and lemon peel. I was all out of tahini but had some shelled sunflower seeds in the pantry, so I threw some in. I was afraid I would have little seed pieces but I just processed the mixture a little longer and it turned out super smooth. Then I spotted a jar of roasted red peppers so I added some of those too. I didn't measure a thing but basically combined my red pepper hummus recipe with the lemon/caper one. And of course, since I likely will never be able to exactly replicate it - it is the BEST HUMMUS EVER.

Or maybe it just means you really can't mess up hummus.

The dog loved seeing her siblings but she is glad to be home.
